I may be too late since the movie was launched on 2006 and I just watch it several days ago. It is 'The Fall,' directed by Tarsem Singh. The main story-line is actually very simple. It tells about a stuntman who used a girl in order to help him suicide, but the extraordinary lays far beyond the main plot. It is so amazing how Tarsem wrapped the story with great imagination and turned the reality of 1920s into a kid's fantasy.

Roy Walker, played by Lee Pace, was a stuntman who got an accident and had to have his leg amputate. Unwilling to bear the fact, he lured Alexandria, a little girl who was also a patient in the same asylum as he was, to help him commit suicide. He tricked her by telling an imagery fiction, and together they put more extras to the story and made it richer and richer.

Tarsem said, there was no special effects used in filming 'The Fall.' All locations are real, they did the shooting in 18 different countries. I proudly tell, one of many is Indonesia. As I live in Indonesia, I immediately noticed the Kecak Dance from Bali in a scene.

I can find no foul in this movie; the plot, the characters, the background, the music, and of course the cinematography. I really love the many colors in the movie. Else, I should praise the young Romanian actress, Catinca Untaru. She was ten years old when she portrayed Alexandria in 'The Fall.' It is very interesting to see how she was being so honest as Alexandria, I mean she was Alexandria, as if she didn't do any acting. She was just seen as kid, cute and annoying in the same time. The other actors played very good as well. All the main characters in the adventure, Black Bandit, the Indian, Luigi the Bomber, Charles Darwin the Naturalist, and my favorite Otta Benga.

Tarsem did a very great job using metaphor in wrapping the story. Like on one scene when he exchanged Alexandria with a doll in a brain surgery. Of course it would be too scary to show a chopped head, so he just showed a doll, cut its head and voila! The surgery was done. You must see it by yourself and you'll say, i tell no lie.

i often slapped by the fact of other people who could manage to produce good stuffs beautifully, whether it's a dance, a song, a picture, or even a piece or writing. one thing that makes me count it as a good stuff is how the man behind create it, how he or she drains his or her feeling through the thing called art, with honesty.

you can be touched by a song sang full hearted. or when someone dance her soul out. to see the difference between a beautiful honest picture and the one perfectly done only by fraud. as for writing, you can simply tell when the writer is just be honest and write what in the mind with the heart. do not care what language used, no matter how long it takes to read it all, without even trying to be smart, nor lurking for certain words to beautify it.

that is, my friend, still far far away from me writing. how much do i love to write even when i say so?

Saat Magnum Mengguncang Jakarta

Jakarta selalu dihiasi dengan berbagai fenomena. Ada saja hal baru yang menjadi perhatian masyarakat hampir setiap harinya. Beberapa bulan terakhir ini kita dibuat heboh dengan kehadiran es krim Magnum keluaran Wall's, yang "katanya" berbeda dengan Magnum yang ada sebelumnya. Magnum seakan jadi es krim paling tenar saat iklan-iklan dengan serunya mempersuasi orang-orang untuk membeli, mengonsumsi, atau sekedar mencicipinya. Lebih hebat lagi, orang-orang dibuat kesulitan untuk mendapatkan Magnum, mulai dari mini market sampai hypermarket. Strategi marketing yang menarik menurut saya. Begitu sulitnya menemukan Magnum seakan-akan es krim tenar ini laku keras.

Setelah promo Magnum usai dan perburuan mulai meredam, ada lagi strategi baru yang dijalankan. Hadirlah Magnum Cafe di Jakarta dan hanya tersedia di satu mall, yaitu Grand Indonesia. Awalnya tidak ada yang istimewa dengan cafe baru ini, namun tiga hari kemarin, yaitu dari hari Jumat, 4 Maret sampai Minggu, 6 Maret, Magnum Cafe menjadi sebuah fenomena di Jakarta.

Sebagai pecinta makanan manis, saya langsung tertarik untuk mampir ke so-called Magnum Cafe. Saya agak penasaran, ada apa sih di sana? Apa bedanya dengan es krim Magnum yang biasa dijual di supermarket-supermarket? Ditambah lagi ada godaan berupa diskon 50% khusus hari Jumat, 4 Maret sampai Minggu, 6 Maret TANPA syarat apa pun.

Jadilah hari Minggu, 6 Maret, kemarin saya mengunjungi Magnum Cafe. Sesampainya di sana, saya dikagetkan oleh antrian panjang di depan Magnum Cafe. Wow kenapa rasanya jadi seperti ada wahana dufan di mall ini? Bahkan sehari sebelumnya saya tidak menemukan antrian seperti itu di Javajazz Festival.

Saat itu pukul dua siang. Pikir saya, hmm mungkin karena masih jam makan siang. Saya memutuskan untuk jalan-jalan sambil memperhatikan antrian. Entah berapa meter panjang antrian itu. Ada yang asyik sendiri dengan HP-nya, ada yang seakan tidak merasakan antrian karena beramai-ramai, ada juga bapak-bapak yang ngedumel lama tapi tetap mengantri. Antrian dibagi menjadi tiga lajur. Lajur satu untuk pengunjung yang ingin take away, sedangkan dua lajur lainnya untuk pengunjung yang ingin dine in. Antrian take away lebih cepat bergeser, mungkin karena tidak semua menu bisa dibawa pulang. Setelah ditelusuri, di ujung antrian para pengunjung disambut oleh Putri dan Pangeran Magnum, ya lebih tepatnya SPG yang memakai kostum Putri dan Pangeran a la Eropa. Usut punya usut, pengunjung harus mengantri sekitar dua jam untuk bisa bertemu dengan Putri-Pangeran dan diantar ke singgasana untuk melahap es krim dari neegri seberang.

Ketika saya kembali jam 3 sore, antrian malah semakin panjang. Luar biasa. Dalam hati saya berujar, 'Ngapain sih orang-orang ini niat ngantri cuma buat makan es krim?' tapi ujung-ujungnya saya malah termakan omongan sendiri dan ikutan mengantri.

Sepuluh menit berlalu. Saya masih berdiri di posisi yang sama.

Dua puluh menit. Saya mulai maju selangkah dua-langkah.

Tiga puluh menit. Saya mengintip ke depan dan antrian masih sangat panjang. OK, sepuluh menit lagi deh, saya masih mencoba sabar.

Empat puluh menit. Terima kasih banyak tapi saya bukan orang yang suka menunggu dan saya jamin saya masih belum bisa masuk selama setengah jam ke depan. Ah lebih baik saya tidak mendapat diskon tapi tidak perlu mengantri gila. Selamat tinggal, teman-teman seperjuangan. Semoga kesabaran kalian terbayarkan. :D

this picture took place in shanghai, china. it is famous with the name shanghai tan, means a bay or beach or something like that. those buildings are living evidence of giant development in china. and this is by far my favorite scenery there.

somehow when i look at it, the word 'krypton' runs into my head. i know there's nothing similar between them but i just think it has the image of 'future'. yes, i'm talking about that particular building with round shapes in between. so kryptonite.

biarlah tulisan kali ini jadi seperti catatan harian. seperti si boy yang sekadar berbagi cerita kurang penting.

ceritanya kemarin siang ibu menelepon pada jam kerja untuk mengingatkan makan siang. tak berapa lama setelah ibu menutup telepon, giliran bu boss yang menelepon anaknya yang sudah kepala tiga, sudah punya rumah sendiri, dan sudah punya perusahaan sendiri. seperti ibu saya, bu boss juga hanya mengecek keadaan anaknya.

lucu juga rasanya. sepetinya hati 11 dari 10 ibu diisi oleh anaknya.

one day i'd like to have a studio-like room. it'll be filled with many different stuff.

on a corner, i'll cover the wall with mirror so i can stretch my body as if i were a ballerina.

i will add some musical instruments. i'll pretend to play the piano or guitar as if i were on stage.

one side of the wall will be my canvas where i can paint anything as if i were a true artist.

then i'll make a small cubicle and turn it into a darkroom, so i can proceed the picture i took as if i were a pro.

also i'll install a computer with a big flat screen, not just a mini laptop. i will see the outer world as if i were locked in a cave.

i will have shelves of books and bunches of papers, so i can read or write or doodle as if i have nothing else to do.

when i'm tired, i'll just lay down on my bamboo rug, as if i were dead.

saya teringat masa-masa sekolah di mana saya lumayan sering salah seragam. seringnya saya salah memakai seragam putih padahal bukan hari senin. kesalahan bodoh itu selalu terjadi kalau ada libur yang masuknya saat pertengahan minggu. otomatis saya mencomot seragam putih-putih dari lemari sejak malam sebelumnya. saya selalu berpikir pendek, 'kalau hari ini libur, berarti besoknya ya senin.' sempit ya otak ini...

maybe not many of you have known that a girl named kim sei young has been missing since last tuesday (june/8) at bogor, indonesia. kim and other fellow students were doing outbound activity, crossing a river, when she lost her grip and fell to the river. on that moment, big water came and drove her away. an outbound instructor, ade parlindungan, immediately jumped to the river in order to save her. unfortunately, he was found lifeless on the next morning. on the other hand, all the rescue team haven't found kim's body up until this is written.

kim sei young from south korea, approximately 13-14 year old, is a year 8 student in british international school, jakarta. outbound at bogor has been a regular activity for BIS' students since 2002, so the school manage to let this go as an accident. meanwhile many parents regret it because it's supposed to be predicted before, the weather was no good for river-crossing and yet they still went on with that condition.

a group of parents has been praying for kim's safety, or at least being found. together, they've been folding origami birds and let them float on the river. later, the birds were folded using one-thousand-rupiah-paper. the idea is to urge the locals to track the money down the river, so that they may found kim.

akhirnya hari ini tiba juga. hari terakhir magang saya di kantor yang satu ini. hari terakhir dari project saya ini. pastinya project ini masih jauh dari sempurna tapi cukup bangga bisa menyelesaikannya sampai hari ini, meski dengan tambal-sulam. hehe.

selesainya project ini tidak menjawab pertanyaan tentang masa depan saya, tapi banyak hal yang didapat dari si project. belajar dikejar deadline dan belajar curang -waktu cuma posting gambar. apakah besok saya masih akan menge-post setiap hari? we'll see. rajin nge-post ada asyiknya juga. apa yang ada di kepala akhirnya dituangkan juga. apa yang tidak ada di kepala akhirnya harus sok-sok diada-adain.

inacraft merupakan acara tahunan yang diadakan di balai sidang jakarta convention center. tahun ini inacraft berlangsung dari 21-25 april. lima hari sepertinya tidak cukup untuk menjelajahi pameran di tujuh area di jcc. segala macam barang bisa ditemukan di sana, mulai dari kain batik, mebel antik, sampai mainan anak.

saya baru berkesempatan mengunjungi inacraft hari minggu (25) kemarin. ya, saya tahu pengunjung hari terakhir pasti akan sangat membludak. maka saya dan seorang teman tiba di tempat sekitar pukul sebelas pagi. lorong-lorong pameran masih lengang dan kami pun bisa mampir ke setiap stand dengan santai dan memperhatikan setiap barang, satu per satu.

setelah selesai berjalan-jalan di hall kedua, kaki mulai lemas dan perut mulai memanggil-manggil. kami kemudian mencari makan di snack bar yang disediakan di dalam gedung. sayang harga makanan agak kurang sesuai kocek. kurang lebih empat puluh ribu rupiah untuk seporsi makanan, nasi dan lauk, yang menggoda plus tujuh ribu untuk sebotol air mineral. jadi terpaksa kami menahan lapar dan melanjutkan perjalanan setelah istiraat sesaat.

tujuan kami pun mulai berubah, dari yang hanya jelajah santai jadi mencari barang di stand yang sudah pasti. masalahnya kami harus berputar-putar mencari stand yang dituju dan cuci mata hanya dilakukan sembari lewat. orang-orang juga semakin banyak sehingga kami harus pintar-pintar menyelip dengan sopan. setelah selesai dengan misi itu, kami sudah terlalu lapar dan letih untuk melanjutkan jalan-jalan. tujuan akhir adalah mencari pintu keluar dan itu pun agak sulit karena kami tidak memegang peta dan tidak ingat jalan menuju pintu keluar.

overall, inacraft kurang lebih sama dengan tahun-tahun sebelumnya tapi kali ini saya tidak menemukan aksesoris atau barang yang cukup menarik. hanya satu stand mainan anak-anak yang barang-barangnya malah import. yang aneh llagi, ada stand sepatu yang biasa hadir di mall-mall ibu kota. bukan sesuatu yang cocok ada di inacraft sepertinya. tapi jangan percaya dengan pendapat saya, karena bservasi lapangan itu saya lakukan dalam kondisi keleyengan, letih dan lapar.

mengerikan sekali hubungan manusia dengan teknologi. mereka seperti pasangan yang tak terpisahkan. bahkan lebih parah lagi, mereka begitu terikat sampai-sampai sulit dipisahkan. beberapa hari saja tanpa internet, rasanya seperti mati kutu. tugas langsung tak bisa dikerjakan, pekerjaan langsung tak terselesaikan, alasannya hanya karena nggak bisa browsing. bahkan rasanya jadi seperti nggak punya teman karena nggak bisa chatting.

last weekend i went to visit a new place (for me) to dine in. well, the other mission is to see the live band performing. you supposed to know what i mean, it's a-girls-night-out-on-saturday-night-without-any-boys.

the place is called pizza e birra at setia budi. i always order the signature of every place, such as at pizza e birra, i decided to order its most wanted pizza -plus dessert pizza with sweet topping- and of course, a glass of beer. i should say the thin pizza is delicious and my favorite is mushroom and cheese. don't be fooled, the real name is too hard for me to remembered, it's something about fungi... as for the famous lychee beer, i don't fancy it too much. i like it and that's all. i also tried pasta carbonara which is delicious but i don't think the same for it's mushroom pasta with some red sauce. the last is my must-order menu, french fries with chili and blue sauce. the taste of bolognaise was so perfect with melted blue cheese on top of the fries.

beside the food, the atmosphere is great to hang out with friends. i repeat, with friends. it's not the type of place want to have a date at. other than that, the band is good. you may go there at weekend to see it. also, i just found out a new event at the restaurant. soon, it will starting movie night at setia budi branch. you can name your favorite indie movie for the screening.

you can visit pizza e birra at setia budi or plaza indonesia and do prepare the money. at least 100k idr for each person to enjoy the moment. have fun!

i really love the place i'm working at, well, at least for now. but i have to face the fact that i'm not belong here, not on this floor. sadly, i have to admit my lack of creativity. i've tried and i realised what i'm not capable of. i've pushed myself to the limit, so now i have to move on. i'm going to seek a place where i belong.

there are only two weeks left. i'll do my best without hoping for anything. i just need to finish what i started.

gayus tambunan, seorang pegawai pajak yang menjadi tersangka kasus penyelewengan pajak sebesar Rp 28 miliar. jujur, saya kurang mengikuti berita ini tapi tanpa mengikutinya saja kuping saya sudah gerah dibuatnya.

yang jadi pemikiran saya hanya satu hal. kenapa orang-orang heboh dengan si gayus yang nilep uang sebesar 28 miliar, padahal ada orang yang digosipkan bikin resepsi pernikahan sampai 100 miliar?

michael holbrook penniman, jr. yes, that's the real name of the famous mika. i love him since his first album, life in cartoon motion. you may love an artist for his song, but you may not enjoy his entire album. while mika, i love all his songs in his first album. it has been quite long ago but i still remember the words he sang. there was a period of time when i start my morning with 'i want to talk to you' from grace kelly.

later last year, mika released another album titled 'the boy who knew too much'. again, i love all the songs. not to mention the hits 'we are golden', 'blame it on the girls', 'rain'. i surely love them all.

i'm telling you, mika is one kind of thing! his music is so great, with his freddy mercury-like voice, his witty lyrics, and of course his fine-looking face. too shame, he's not coming to indonesia because some source said he's afraid to. oh deary michael, please don't be scared of indonesia. please come. please...

setelah beberapa waktu belakangan selalu mengeluh betapa saya belum hafal lagu-lagu koc dan jens lekman, rasanya kini saya wajib membayarnya dengan meringkas konser yang telah lalu itu. selamat menilik balik.

Hari Minggu (28/03) kemarin akhirnya datang juga yang telah dinanti-nanti, Kings of Convinience dan Jens Lekman live di jakarta. Meski pun pada tiket tertulis waktu 6.30 sore, orang-orang sudah berjejal dari sekitar pukul 4 untuk bisa memasuki foyer. Setelah melalui pemeriksaan, penonton harus mengantri lagi sebelum memasuki ballroom. Kali ini penonton dibagi menjad dua bagian, perempuan dan laki-laki -agak tidak biasa nampaknya dengan konser-konser pada umumnya. Akhirnya sekitar pukul tujuh, pintu dibuka dan penonton pun berlarian masuk, saling berebut agar mendapat tempat paling depan. Ballroom Ritz Carlton Pacific Place yang biasa digunakan untuk acara resmi, disulap menjadi panggung konser. Backdrop sederhana, layar besar di kanan kiri panggung, piano, mic-stand sudah siap di atas panggung menunggu orang memainkan mereka.

Saat jam menunjuk pukul 7.30, tampillaj band pembuka, Holywood Nobody. Kalau dilihat secara objektif, kualitas band ini terbilang bagus. Namun bagi penonton yang sudah tidak sabar ingin melihat Jens Lekman dan KOC, lima lagu yang dibawakannya terasa seperti tak ada habisnya.

Kemudian ada penampilan dari White Shoes and The Couples Company yang merupakan kawan baik KOC. Mereka membawakan tembang-tembang dari album baru mereka yang akan dirilis bulan April ini. Mereka juga membagikan CD teaser berisi dua lagu baru. WT&TCC memang sangat cocok sebagai band pembuka. Ibarat makanan, WT&TCC adalah appetizer yang lezat. Walau ada saja penonton yang duduk saat mereka tampil, mungkin untuk menghemat energi karena konser masih panjang.

Setelah jeda beberapa saat, Jens Lekman naik ke atas panggung. Lagu pembuka 'And I Remember Every Kiss' langsung memukau penonton. Lekman tidak membawa band-nya melainkan hanya ditemani dengan sebuah gitar akustik dan seorang perempuan yang memainkan alat perkusi sederhana. Dengan instrumen sederhana saja, penampilannya sangat luar biasa. Tak heranlah karena aksi panggungnya yang sederhana namun menghibur, serta caranya bercerita. Pantas saja orang sering menyebutnya sebagai seorang story teller, bukan sekedar penyanyi atau musisi. Penonton semakin takjub saat musik latar bermain dari laptop-nya. Tapi ternyata di balik itu semua ada kekecewaan bagi pecinta Jens Lekman. Pertama, Lekman mengakhiri penampilannya dengan membawakan "Sipping On The Sweet Nectar' dua kali. Satu lagi, mereka kecewa dengan antusiasme penonton yang kurang. Yah memang banyak orang yang belum mengenal Jens Lekman. Kebanyakan baru mempelajari lagu-lagunya setelah membeli tiket konser.

Akhirnya, tiba juga saat yang ditunggu-tunggu. Sebelumnya penonton merasa khawatir karena ada pemberitahuan bahwa Eirik Gamblek Bøe sedang sakit karena alergi makanan saat di Bandung sehari sebelumnya. Tapi untunglah dia tetap bisa tampil. Saat Kings of Convenience di atas panggung, penonton langsung memekik riuh -baik yang fanatik atau yang tak tahu bedanya erlend dan eirik. Penampilan mereka benar-benar tanpa cacat. Eirik si pangeran tampan dan Erlend sang entertainer sejati. Mereka membawakan lagu-lagu yang tak asing lagi di telinga pecintanya, Cayman Island, Homesick, I'd Rather Dance With You, I Don't Know What I Can Save You From, Me In You dan lagu-lagu lainnya. KOC berkolaborasi dengan dua personil WS&TCC saat membawakan Boat Behind. Ada lagi yang spektakuler, Erlend Oye sendiri membawakan lagu 'Bersandar' dari WS&TCC (bisa dilihat di sini). Lagi-lagi suara penonton memenuhi ruangan. Penonton kemarin memang agak 'ganas'. Di awal saja Eirik sudah bilang, 'this is the loudest audience', entah maksudnya positif atau negatif.

maybe you'll say, 'where have you been?!' well for one and other reasons, it just happened. so last night was the very first time i see a real concert, performed by my favorite artists. kings of convenience it is. they came to jakarta about years ago but i didn't get a chance to see them. so last night was a big night for me.

when i saw them on stage, it was like 'is this for real?' i'm afraid my eyes have betrayed me. yet they were there, playing guitars and singing. i sang along in some songs, in other some, i just stood, closing my eyes to listen carefully to their voices. when i opened my eyes, i stared at them as if there were only the three of us in there.

i'm so glad they sang cayman island. it was their first song i listened to. i will never forget the clip, so beautifully made that i fall for it.

after show, after the crowd was less-crowded, erlend oye wandering at the foyer. he played with his ukulele, rejecting fans' request to take photograph. while playing by himself, he drew near to jens leksman who was busy giving autograph and taking pictures.

he then sat on the table, still playing with his ukulele, singing.

he sang more

his face was getting closer to mine.

his nose was only a finger from my cheek.

hah! i really didn't know what to do! should i kiss him? should i not? should i ask for a kiss? should i not? so i just froze there. and then jens lekman sang along with him. that was a real great closing for the concert.

setiap hari saya melakukan perjalanan dari kantor di kawasan blok m menuju kampus di depok. tambahan informasi, perjalanan dilakukan pada jam pulang kantor saat kendaraan umum sedang ramai-ramainya dan jalanan sedang macet-macetnya. apa mau dikata, ini pilihan hidup kok.

namun begitu, perjalan hari ini agak lebih menggentarkan dengan durasi yang lebih lama dari film standar di bioskop. mari mengulang perjalanan bersama.

4.00 - membereskan barang dan bergegas menyeberang ke terminal blok m dengan kondisi hujan rintik-rintik *untung tinggal menyeberang. bayangkan kalau perlu ganti kendaraan menuju terminal.

4.10 - tiba di tempat bus langganan ngetem (di bagian belakang terminal). duduk tenang di bus dan bersyukur karena saya sudah di bus saat hujan mendadak deras.

4.20 - akhirnya bus jalan. hujan masih turun dengan derasnya dan bus mulai menunjukkan indikasi kebocoran. saya memutuskan untuk tidur.

4.58 - saya terbangun sejenak dan melihat bus baru akan keluar dari terminal. hujan bahkan sudah kembali reda. setelah membayar ongkos, saya pun kembali terpejam.

5.30 - lagi-lagi terbangun dan mendapati bus sudah penuh sesak, untung saya sudah dapat tempat duduk. saat melongok lebih jelas, bus baru mau memasuki tol yang tampaknya... agak padat.

5.57 - kali ini saya sudah kenyang tidur tapi bus baru keluar tol. hmm. mengingat kemacetan di sana sini, saya pikir setengah jam cukup untuk tiba di kampus. padahal kalau lancar mungkin hanya sekitar 15 menit.

6.06 - saya melirik ke jam digital besar di bengkel pinggir jalan. hmph. jalanan masih macet dan pantat mulai pegal duduk selama hampir dua jam.

6.20 - tiba di depok dan hujan rintik-rintik. saat menanyakan harga payung di pinggir jalan, si mas malah bilang 'saya bukan masnya, mbak'. tak apalah. yang penting berakhir dengan selamat dan bahagia.

i like to sit on the cinema till the end of show. i won't stand up even 'the end' had appeared on screen. i don't really care when i'm the last person in the studio, only to watch the credit title. i even had the staff come by to ask me to leave the studio. 'the timing is tight, we'll have to start the movie again very soon', she said to me. well what should i do. i couldn't just insist to sit and watch it till it really ended, could i? i hate it even more when they shut the film just like that, as if there were no more audience. ok, it's only me and me alone. but still. i mean, i gave money to watch the movie, right? the whole entirely movie. no one should decide which part of the movie i am allowed to watch. it's supposed to be alright if i want see the logo of 'dolby digital'.

my reason is just simple and... well, simple. they call it credit title for a reason. it's a place or space to put the credits for the crew. not just the main star but also the assistant, even the driver. also every single part involved. don't you love it so much when you read 'thanks to the family of heath ledger'?

i've just done with the finale season of gilmore girls. it gave me goosebump and tear, always. watching the seven seasons of gilmore girls was so great. it feels like we were living with the gilmores, following them in each scene of their life. it feels like we know the town like our own.

it's a life story, actually. someone out there could possibly happen to be the gilmores. love, life, school, but it's far from typical tv series. changing partner but not with your bestfriend's ex. having ups and downs in life, unlike a chessy movie plot.

it's like i was growing up with rory gilmore. surprised when she cut her bang but never realize if she gets older.

tim burton's alice in wonderland was played by enormous movie stars. i'll try to write my thoughts about the casts here. pardon me if i'm being rude or act as if i've seen the other side of the world, if you know what i mean.

alice - let's start with the main role. mia wasikowska (vah-shee-kov-ska) acted so well. at first, i don't think she's pretty, nor she had the image of alice. but slowly she got prettier and i think she suit the character. my favorite is her wardrobe which keep changing as her body size was changing too. it doesn't make any sense when her dress loosen but her socks remain the same. but still, the dress transformation was very nice.

white rabbit - he is my favorite character in this bedtime story. the one who leads alice to wonderland. wise-man in the story. his voice was dubbed by michael sheen, aro in twilight saga.

blue caterpillar - now this one is my favorite character in the movie. the reason is no other than his voice. once i heard it, i knew it's alan rickman, you may notice him as snape in harry potter movies. the blue caterpillar's name was absolem, the one who knows absolute everything.

cheshire cat - one thing about this puss, why burton changed the color into grenish blue?

white queen - i always think anne hathaway as the girl next door, a new yorker, not this queen in fantasy land. she doesn't have that look with that white hair. plus she's the one who clearly didn't carry the british accent, knowing the film took place at london. but -yes, there's always a but- she acted so so great. the dreamy queen with her hand gesture, it set.

red queen - helena bonham carter has all the rights to be a life partner of tim burton. both were crazy and incredible. if i should name 10 actresses, like the ones who really act, her name will be in it. she always play an eccentric character. the red queen lighten up the movie, way way brighter.

mad hatter - johnny depp is one of my favorite persons. like helena bonham carter, he acts for real, in all of his movies. too bad i still see the hatter as jack sparrow in pirates of caribbean. the thought that he still carried away with captain sparrow made him look less than usual.

alice in wonderland (2010) -the movie

a wonderful bedtime story to be retold by tim burton. i won't repeat the storyline for you all must have known it. the movie was good after all, but i do understand why some people are disappointed. i think people had put too big hope to watch an extraordinary movie.

for example, i don't think the animation stunned me. not bad , just not stunning. i demand the effect was to make viewer involved in the movie, as if he was the character himself. like when alice was falling down to the rabbit hole, i expected my stomach to fly away just like i was the one who falling. but i don't feel it, i just sat still in the cinema.

i enjoy the journey of alice and friends but i prefer to have a different ending. why should alice go abroad doing business. it's too far, i think. it brushed away all the fantasy theme.

another thing to make the film less than great was, it's tim burton's for heaven's sake.

leigh anne tuohy, a designer, a wife of ex basketball star, a sophisticated mother of two, living in a great big house.

their lives changed after they met each other. michael lived with the tuohy and became a part of the family. leigh anne found the joy beyond everything she could ever think about.

it is a true story of an all american football star. it is a story of racial issue. moreover, it is a story about family and much, so much of love.

sandra bullock won oscar as the best lead actress, and i should say no surprise with that. she won it for her latest film, blind side. her acting was so great in it. i'm always a fan of sandra bullock, nevertheless i sometimes thought she always had a typical character in every movie. a pretty witty romantic comedy kind of girl. like in one of my favorite movie, while you were sleeping.

but in blind side, bullock played as a mother of two -or shall i say three- kids. and so i've just realized she's already 46 years old. almost 50, can you imagine?! i realized she looks older, but i was thinking like... thirtysh.

bullock was chosen as one of the 50 beautiful people in the world by people magazine (usa) on 1996. she is also named by empire magazine n the list of 100 sexiest star. i personally think she is pretty and i prefer her in dark hair color rather than blonde. i doubt she never done any plastic surgery but that doesn't matter. she is charming all the way.

she was married to a movie producer, jesse james, on 2005. it was her first marriage and they're still together now, remembering how holywood artists easily changing partner. she said once before she was married, 'the only reason I haven't married yet, is because i take it too seriously.'

kemarin adalah perjalanan yang cukup menegangkan buat saya. dari kantor ke kampus kadang saya naik bus, kadang juga naik kereta. perlu diketahui kalau saya benar-benar baru dalam dunia perkeretaapian. sampai sekarang saya masih deg-degan kalau naik kereta sendirian, karena saya nggak tahu yang mana kereta saya dan sudah di stasiun mana kereta itu berhenti.

kemarin saya memutuskan naik kereta setelah melakukan perhitungan waktu yang cermat. namun saya sangat nggak familiar dengan kata-kata 'kereta batal diberangkatkan' atau 'masih belum ada pemberitahuan' atau 'keretanya nggak berhenti di universitas indonesia' atau 'keretanya masih di depok'. astaga! deg-degan yang biasa pun berpangkat dua.

dengan bantuan dari mas-mas petugas (yang sebenarnya agak menjebak), saya naik kereta yang melewati stasiun pemberhentian yang seharusnya. nanti dari sana baru ganti kendaraan, balik ke dua stasiun sebelumnya, begitu pikir saya. alhasil, dengan perasaan deg-degan dan nggak berarti memakai earphone di kereta, saya sampai di kampus dengan selamat. saya merayakannya dengan membeli somay yang aromanya sangat harum. terima kasih, tuhan!

lords of the rings is, by far, one of my favorite movies. the story about a fellowship finding a way to destroy an evil ring. the main character, frodo baggins, who is a hobbit is accompanied by several kinds of frieds. there are another hobbits, an elf, a dwarf, a wizard and also human. the human who accompanied till the end of journey is aragorn. he is my favorite character in the movie. king of the kings, the one who ruled human.

my favorite scene is the one on lord of the rings ii: the two towers -aragorn in it, of course. when he get into the path of the death to seek for help from dead men of dunharrow. with his authority as the king of human, he told them to pay their debt of betrayal. his last words were nicely phrase, 'what say you?'

lately, my sleeping hour is getting ruined and more ruined. i've almost never slept before midnight. and now, i always sleep at about 1.30 at the morning. it effects my conciousness, i get so sleepy after lunch, and of course at class, considering i'm having night classes.

the inglorious rather crazy thing is, i can now sleep at bus. well it's not a strange thing for i always sleep during my journey, sitting. yes, it means now i frequently standing-sleep. cool eh?

semalam kuliah saya membahas mengenai teori normatif dalam komunikasi massa. sebelum tulisan ini berlanjut ke hal yang terlalu sok teori-tis, ada baik saya jelaskan dulu arti teori normatif sendiri. dalam bahasa saya sendiri, teori normatif adalah teori yang mengungkapkan bagaimana seharusnya media bekerja. dalam sejarahnya, teori normatif muncul setelah teori-teori yang ada sebelumnya. sedikit cerita saja biar lebih jelas. awal mulanya adalah teori authoritarian di mana media benar-benar dikontrol oleh penguasa. kemudian muncullah paham libertarian yang memberikan media kebebasan sepenuhnya tanpa adanya hukum ataupun aturan yang mengikatnya. paham ini lambat laun menjadi libertarian radikal di mana kebebasan yang sedemikian rupa benar-benar tak terkontrol lagi sehingga muncul kelompok-kelompok yang menghendaki adanya suatu instansi swasta atau pemerintah yang dapat memberikan batasan-batasan. akhirnya semua itu mengacu pada media social responsibility yang intinya adalah bebas dan bertanggung jawab. jadi media bebas mencari atau pun menyampaikan berita asal media mampu mempertanggungjawabkannya.

cerita yang membosankan di atas membawa saya untuk berpikir, sebenarnya bagaimana jurnalisme saat ini, terutama di indonesia. media yang bebas dan bertanggung jawab memanglah suatu gambaran yang ideal dan paham itu pula yang diterapkan dalam pers di indonesia. namun apakah teori itu sesuai dengan penerapannya? kenyataannya tidak. bila di amerika, pers baru sadar untuk menerapkan teori tersebut setelah mengalami euforia kebebasan pada abad 20. sedangkan pers indonesia baru dihadiahi kebebasan pada era presiden abdurrahman sahid maka sekarang ini indonesia masih dalam masa euforia. dibanding 'media yang bebas dan bertanggung jawab', pers indonesia malah dapat dibilang sangat bebas. komisi independen yang dibentuk untuk mengawasi media malah tak berkutik saat melihat berbagai kode etik pers dilanggar.

siapa yang punya uang, ialah yang berbicara. generasi muda pun mengalami kesulitan dalam mencapai jurnalisme yang ideal. dilemanya adalah menjajakan berita demi uang atau menjunjung idealisme tinggi sambil mengurangi porsi makan sehari-hari?

suatu kebutuhan yang sebatas keinginan

kemarin saya dan seorang teman pergi melihat-lihat laptop serta mengecek harga dan spesifikasinya. saya ingin mempunya benda bernama laptop sejak pertama akali saya melihat teknologi canggih ini. seperti buku dengan tenaga listrik, seperti komputer yang dipadatkan menjadi sebuah benda yang bisa dilipat.

zaman sekarang wi-fi tersedia di mana-mana. di kafe yang suasananya begitu nyaman, sudah tak jarang tampak orang yang duduk sendiri ditemani secangkir kopi dan laptop. saya langsung berharap dapat melakukan hal itu.

saat ini pula teknologi sudah sangat berkembang, telepon genggam bukan lagi dianggap barang mewah. supir angkot dan pedagang asongan sudah biasa menggenggam sebuah ponsel. bahkan blackberry sudah jadi barang sejuta umat, pemakainya dari orang berdasi sampai penumpang bus yang berdesak-desakan.

lambat laun, laptop pun tidak akan menjadi kebutuhan tertier. dulu yang memiliki laptop dilihat sebagai orang kaya. pemandangan yang bisa dilihat adalah bapak-bapak-bos-besar yang menjinjing tas laptop turun dari mobil. memiliki laptop pun jadi sebatas impian. tapi kini zaman sudah berubah. harga laptop bahkan cenderung mengalami penurunan. yang jad pertanyaan adalah apakah ornag yang menggunakan laptop sekarang memang membutuhkannya atau hanya sekedar mengikuti perkembangan zaman? pertanyaan itu juga yang saya tanyakan pada diri sendiri saat ini.

late night hour

i used to sleep at nine pm, sharp. i never had a chance to watch late night movie on screen. when i was a kid who's forced to sleep at 9, i always thought of when can i sleep later, when can i watch movie or go out until the middle of night.

now i rarely sleep at ten pm. i just got back from school at about 10.30. then i do the night ritual such as facial wash and teeth brush. then maybe i still have to do some homework. especially if it's due to the next day.

i remember how i wished to stop taking a nap at noon when i was a kid. how i wanted to skip it or got up immediately as soon as my parents left. now i'm thinking of time to sleep. oh no, just a quick nap will do.

sedia payung sebelum hujan

sudah beberapa lama hujan terus turun di jakarta dan sekitarnya. saya sebagai seseorang yang berpindah-pindah tempat dalam sehari sangat membutuhkan kehadiran sebuah teknologi bernama payung. pastinya bukan hanya saya yang butuh payung. bahkan banyak orang yang memakai payung saat panas terik. contohnya ibu saya, ia bahkan menggunakan payung yang diiming-imingi anti sinar UV.

begitu besarnya peran payung dalam hidup manusia tapi belum ada model payung yang benar-benar praktis untuk dibawa ke mana-mana. payung yang paling melindungi mungkin payung para ojek payung yang ukurannya raksasa. tapi jelas payung itu tidak nyaman digunakan alias tidak handy. payung lipat yang mudah dibawa-bawa pun masih mempunyai kelemahan. ukurannya setelah dilipat masih cenderung besar dan berat, jadi lagi-lagi tidak handy. sedangkan payung lipat yang cukup kecil tidak cukup melindungi karena ketika dibuka, si payung kurang besar untuk melindungi pemakainya dari serangan hujan angin.

andai saja ada payung lipat yang mini dan super tipis. seperti lipstick saja kalau bisa. dan kalau dibuka, payung itu benar-benar mampu melindungi seseorang bak ojek payung yang tak perlu dibayar. teknologi sudah semakin maju, maka payung impian ini juga sangat mungkin menjadi kenyataan.
